ULTIMATE REFEED DAY🐷😍. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Large stuffed crust pizza, four cookies, 7 chicken dippers, garlic pizza bread, cheesy wedges, and Ben & Jerries for dessert🍨. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❓WHAT IS A REFEED? The term refeed is rarely used when discussing someone who isn’t dieting or looking to lose fat. Most commonly a refeed is a 24 hour period in which calories are brought up to maintenance level or slightly higher, primarily by increasing your carbs. However as you get leaner and deeper into your diet, a multi-day refeed or more frequent refeed days may be more beneficial. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The key with refeeds is to ensure it is under your control and not just an excuse to binge or eat anything you’d like❌. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It should be a calculated increase to maintenance calories, mainly from an increase in carbs✅. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thus providing potential psychological benefits - they allow me to feel FULL when I eat and if anyone has dieted for an extended period of time they know this is a rare commodity. In return this boosts my mood and reduces stress. This paired with the increase in glycogen levels results in far better training sessions on the days to follow!🏋🏽 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❓WHO SHOULD USE REFEEDS? I’d recommend refeeds to anyone who is dieting. As you diet leptin levels drop(satiety hormone), and periodic refeeds can raise leptin levels and help to aid in fat loss🔥 as well as ensure dietary adherence🥒. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anyone below 10% body fat may refeed weekly or look to implement multi day refeeds. Anyone between the 10-15% range, refeeding every 2 weeks will probably be adequate and anyone above should look to refeed every 2-4 weeks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ❓HOW TO IMPLEMENT REFEEDS? The easiest way is to increase your calories to maintenance level or slightly above and increase carbs by at least 100-200%(start lower on the lower end). Year One of DadBod Experimentation continues . I’ve been experimenting with some different approaches to fasting lately. . Doing some liquid fasts (where I don’t quite fast but only consume liquids) . Have also been toying around with varying amounts of protein throughout different times of day. Sandwiching moderate protein in the AM with lower amounts during the day. .
